Award-winning musician speaks to MSU students
STARKVILLE, Miss (WTVA) -- "It's a real benefit to have him come do this sort of thing."
Mac McAnally was been voted CMA Musician of the Year seven times in a row.
Thursday, McAnally sat down and spoke to music students at Mississippi State University.
Even though McAnally was been recognized for his music multiple times, he said he didn't feel like he was the person to be giving advice.
"To be honest, I had to have a little prodding from the faculty here, because I don't consider myself worthy of passing along that type of advice."
Students got to hear about his musical career and ask questions of their own.
Director of Music at Mississippi State Barry Kopetz said it was good to have such a recognized artist speak to his students.
"I think students often think of people that are in the perform industry, they think of them as not real people."
Music student McKenna Lewis says hearing McAnally's experience was important as someone who wants a career in music.
"You don't actually think it can happen to go that far in music, and to hear from someone who's actually experienced it from a small town in Mississippi that's very cool."
McAnally's finally piece of advice for young musicians was this. "Don't let those opportunity go by don't just say, 'this day, it stinks and I'm going to blow it off." Don't blow it off, give it your best and get better."
