Mac Joins Kenny Chesney Performing in Tuscaloosa for Tornado Relief

Playing to a sold-out crowd at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, Kenny Chesney wasn't sure that carrying on with his planned tour stop in Tuscaloosa was appropriate following April's tornadoes, but Wednesday night's show (5/25) changed his mind. "I didn't know if we were doing the right thing," he admits." But after tonight I am convinced that this town needed something to look forward to." Guests included Mac McAnally and Uncle Kracker.

During the show, songwriter and Alabama native Mac McAnally, joined Chesney on stage for "Back Where I Come From" and "Down The Road," both written by Mac.

Chesney said, "I'm so honored to have played Tuscaloosa tonight. This town has always been incredible to me and they are really hurting now. I didn't know if we were doing the right thing by doing the show but after tonight I am convinced that this town needed something to look forward to and I am so glad we played tonight. The highlight for me was singing the Alabama song " My Home’s In Alabama." It was as emotional of a moment that we have ever had on stage.”

Chesney lunched with University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban, who has donated $50,000 toward rebuilding. Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox thanked Kenny and team for donating show proceeds to GiveTuscaloosa.com. Contributions are still being accepted online, by phone (205-758-7588) and by mail (checks payable to "Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund," P.O. Box 020410, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401).
